It also aids with elimination – making it more efficient and regular, helping flush out bacteria and toxins from the body. It is a tonic for the liver and helps it produce bile to digest fats. According to recent research this production of bile is a conversion of cholesterol into bile acids, which may help with blood cholesterol levels.

Lemon juice is our friend when a cold sets in – often mixed with honey and hot water to reduce phlegm and break a fever. Its antibacterial properties can also fight and prevent the cold from taking hold. When used in a fifty-fifty solution with water – frequent gargling can fight throat infections, sore throat and tonsillitis.
- Links with Cancer prevention.
Lemon juice contains a type of compound called limonin glucoside. New studies have found compounds called citrus limonoids have protective properties against cancer. One type of limonoid, called limonin, may also help to lower levels of LDL cholesterol, the “bad” cholesterol.
