Benefits from drinking wine

Many of the medical reports state that a glass of wine a day is good for heart health, produces the good cholesterol and may keep the brain functioning at a better level.  It seems that the alcohol content is an important element of this benefit. There are antioxidants in wine, but a spinach salad would provide more of them. The studies that have been done on wine and alcohol drinks are fairly close in benefits, except the wine with a meal has other benefits.

Wine helps the appetite and slows down the digestion, which may cause a decrease in the food intake. The healthy amount of wine seems to top out at one glass a day with meals. This amount allows for the benefits without much of an increase in calorie intake.  A glass at night seems to have a relaxing effect and may help some people sleep better.
