Eat more to lose weight

When people come for the first time to My Fitness Studio they often tell me they have tried dieting and have stopped eating for 3/4 of the day as a drastic way to lose weight.  I tell them this is the worst way to lose weight and actually to do the opposite, to eat more.  Basically, when our body is deprived of food it goes into the starvation phase where it stores most things we eat as fat so we actually get fatter rather than thinner.  Dieting like this also leads to muscle wasting so you overall develop a pretty poor looking shape.  What you actually want to do is eat more regularly and go to the gym.  The gym will build muscle and the healthy food you are eating will give you energy to build muscle.  By eating the right things and regularly our body will reduce fat as there will be no need to store the fat as it knows it is getting regular food.
