Fit for the Future: what's it all about?

Pre-natal fitness

If you want to stay fit across all stages of your pregnancy, good timing and preparation is crucial. Training gently but regularly can be beneficial before, during and after the birth of your child. Balancing rest and sleep with gentle exercise will give you the energy to get through each term of your pregnancy, labour and the delivery.

Your body needs less calories to support a developing baby than most people might think and eating with abandon can potentially lead to complications such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. Adding some weight during pregnancy is healthy and completely natural but we're here to help you keep that weight gain under control.

Back to your old self

Expectant and new mothers feature regularly among the core clientele at MyFitness Studio. The most common concern is losing the excess weight that can come from being with child for nine months and returning to the way you felt before the pregnancy. With dedication and patience, this can happen much quicker than you might think. Our trainers will guide you through dietary recommendations and training methods that will reduce excess fat and get you feeling fresh and fit for motherhood.

It's crucial to judge carefully what your body is capable of in the months after pregnancy. After two to three months you're ready to work your entire core without putting strain on your neck and back – getting your core back into good condition will help your body bounce fast. Planks, floor bridges and simple, well known exercises such as squat thrusts will engage your abs, legs and buttocks. Over time we'll advance to more challenging drills : wide-stance deadlifts, push ups, lunges and so on.

Reorganise, revitalise

If your diary is full to the brim with family commitments, the first step to improving your fitness is simply making spare time. Initially this may sound easier said than done but it will pay dividends in the long run. If you can clear a space in your diary and establish a regular pattern of exercise, we'll show you how to use your workouts to beat tiredness and make the most of the time you spend looking after your family.

We'll focus on exercise that will help you regain some lost muscle mass and work on strengthen weakening bones – something that's only natural as we get older. We'll work your heart, maximise blood flow and increase your energy levels. As a result you'll feel less stressed and have plenty more in the tank to organise the kids and enjoy family life.

Isaac's story

Because I am blind, I cannot learn new exercises by watching my trainer nor can he show me what I am doing wrong – he has to either verbalise the technique or demonstrate by physically making adjustments to my body shape.

For this reason, I need to work with a trainer who can effectively explain an exercise and describe the postures and workings of the body that correspond to the proper execution of that exercise. I have found such a trainer in Rob, and as a result, working out with him is both productive and enjoyable.

Through careful instruction and my conscious effort to comprehend and implement what I’m being told, I gain a greater understanding of the mechanics and purpose of an exercise than perhaps I would through visual imitation.

The team's knowledge, creativity and flexibility make training at MyFitness Studio both a worthwhile pleasure and an education.

Jo's story

I decided to invest in some personal training sessions six months before my wedding in July 2011 and have been training with Rob and the team ever since.

As is the case for so many brides (and grooms) to be, I was a bit nervous about the pressure of looking good on my wedding day. My objective was simply to lose some weight and tone up so I could feel confident and happy with how I would look in our wedding pictures.

At my first session Rob identified key areas for us to work on including my arms, thighs and bottom and how specifically to make all of those areas slimmer and tighter. I originally trained only twice a week and saw huge changes in my body after just a couple of months. My arms were noticeably toned and my bottom smaller and tighter.

The team gave me great nutritional information to ensure my diet supported my training and weight loss goals. By my wedding in July I had not only hit my weight loss target, I had toned up dramatically. I felt in the best shape of my life and as a result I felt confident and happy in my dress. That on-the-day confidence really shows through in our pictures and I’m so thankful to MyFitness Studio for helping me achieve this.

Our Fit for the Occasion sessions were the right mix of fun and hard work and I enjoyed them so much that I couldn’t give up training after the wedding.
