Good foods for your liver

June 3rd, 2010

Here is a list of foods that can help keep your liver healthy.

High Fibre Foods

High fibre foods such as rice and cereals help boost the digestion process. These also help maintain the functionality of the liver, as long as you also maintain a diet that limits the amount of cholesterol and fat coming into your body.

Foods Containing Vitamins C, B, and E

Foods rich in these vitamins, whilst being needed for an overall healthy lifestyle, also ensure the healthy function of the liver. This is especially the case for vitamin C [found in tomatoes, oranges, and kiwis] and E [avocado, asparagus, almonds], which are antioxidants. These help limit the damage to the liver caused by ‘free radicals’, healing and cleansing the liver. Vitamin B [which can be found in eggs, spinach, and brown rice] improves liver functions, and helps to deter decongestion. Vitamin B12 [found in fish, meat, eggs, and also animal liver] also helps to metabolise fats.

Foods in abundance of Beta Carotene

Foods such as beetroots and carrots contain various antioxidants that aid the detoxification process and protect the liver against various diseases. Garlic also acts as a brilliant antioxidant, due to the high selenium and glutathione

Vegetables

All of these contain important cleansing and detoxifying agents to help keep your liver working in a healthy and long-lasting fashion.
