Perfect tricep extensions

November 5th, 2009

Isolating the tricep is very important when tricep training, actually isolating any muscle group you are working is a very important part of weight lifting, however, the tricep can often be hard to isolate as our back can take away alot of the work from the tricep.  To perform a perfect tricep extension stand or sit on a bench with the weight in one hand and your arm with the weight in straight up in the air vertical, rest your other hand on your opposite hip.  Lower the weight right down behind the head until you can really feel the tricep stretch out and then raise it right back up to vertical, this is the tricep extension.  The most important part of isolation is keeping the top part of your arm vertical throughout the motion, I often get someone to hold my arm vertical once performing this exercise.  If this exercise is performed properly you will really feel it the next day on the tricep, if performed wrongly you can easily waist your time.  In the picture above they are not doing it perfectly, where they have their opposite hand is where you need someone to push ensuring that part of your arm is vertical.
