June 2nd, 2010
Rich in Calories
Fast food is packed with calories. With one meal in most popular fast food chains usually containing roughly 1,000 calories, you run a big risk of being overweight; especially if you eat meals like this on a regular basis.
High levels of Salt
Salt may make the food taste better in the short term, but salt greatly increases your blood pressure and your recommended daily intake of sodium can be reached in one meal when eating fast food.
High levels of additives
There are usually various additives put in fast food in order to create a good taste and to preserve the food. However, in many cases, these additives can be bad and harmful to your health.
High Glycemic Index
Most fast food has a high Glycemic index, meaning that they greatly increase blood glucose levels, and can even increase the risk of obesity and type two diabetes
High levels of fat
Many fast foods are cooked in oil and butter. Because of this, most of the food ends up having an extremely high fat content, with fried fish, meat, and chips being prominent examples. Too much fat can contribute to high cholesterol, obesity, and even heart disease.
