Soy protein

April 28th, 2010

Since the “big soy boom” at the tip of the millennium, the word ‘Soy’ has been cropping up here, there, and everywhere- but what is soy and what can it do for you and your fitness lifestyle?

A complete protein, with extremely low levels of fat, cholesterol, and lactose, Soy has been shown to have a very competitive PDCAAS [Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score].  It is incredibly useful for those who are lactose intolerant, and those [such as vegetarians] who need a substitute for meat, whilst maintaining a high protein rate. Soy Protein has also been shown to reduce levels of cholesterol in the body.

Soy Protein has even been shown to be a powerful antioxidant, and scientific studies conducted at the Ball State University have proved that protein supplements, such as Soy, can help prevent the effects of overtraining, allowing you to work out faster and harder, so you can be even stronger, healthier, and fitter.  The high level of protein means that your body will also become extremely efficient at growth and repair, especially after a workout. In fact, the level of protein and its absorption has been said to be as good, if not better than many of the whey supplements available on the market. Because Soy is low in carbohydrates and high in protein, its great for those trying to lose weight whilst gaining muscle.

Although it is safe to take Soy Protein in a wide range of doses, and only a minority of people are allergic to Soy Protein, it’s advisable for users to contact their physicians, especially if they are taking prescription medication.
