The big protein myth

July 23rd, 2010

Sports supplements companies have been trying to sell the idea for years that you need a huge amount of protein per day to grow big and muscular, this is not true, this is what they want you to believe so you buy more and more of their protein products.  Most people trying to build muscle spend way too much time consuming protein when actually they need more quality carbs to help build larger muscles.  Don’t get me wrong you still need a lot of protein but not the amount they suggest.  I have spoken to teenage guys who weigh around 11 stone telling me they are eating 300 grams of protein per day as they read it in “Flex” this is absolutely crazy, at that weight I would recommend around 120g protein max per day.  Although eating too much protein is not dangerous it just gets wasted and you will end up getting fatter which is not what you want.
