Usain Bolts workout and diet good to follow for sprinters
January 30th, 2009
Everyone remembers when Usain Bolt came flying across the finish line in the 100m at the last olympics. Usain Bolt is a 6ft 4 inch 13 stone 8lb man who’s shape and physique is what helped drive him to success. Usains workout and diet is what created this winning shape and is what we are going to talk about.
Usain says his diet is a high energy diet 60% protein 30% carbs. When asked about supplements Usain said Vitamin C was the only supplement he takes. Usain does a lot of on track training as you would expect from a 100m sprint runner. He does skipping on track, kickbacks and straight leg extensions. In the gym Usain spends a lot of time doing plyometric training such as bunny hops and frog leaps great explosive exercises for sprint runners.
When I asked Charles Collard our sponsored athlete about training for triathlon he said most of the training he did was on the bike in the pool or on the road as these exercises were exactly what he does in the race. Charles said that most triathletes didn’t spend hours on the treadmill as this is not what they do in the race. The same would go for a runner like Usain bolt most of his training will be done on the track. People often forget this when training for sports, you need to keep specific to your sport. A top class rower would not train on the treadmill but a rowing machine as it is specific to his sport, a top class rower just because he is fit on the rower does not mean he will be fit on the treadmill as it is using different muscle groups, fibers and the brain is not used to dealing with this kind of training. Remember, keep specific if you want to be a top sprinter like Usain Bolt then your best replicating his workout rather than Steve Redgraves. If you want sports conditioning to help you with your sport then come and see us at Personal training studios we have personal trainers who can deal with most sports.
