What are the benefits of eccentric training?

Most people in the gym don’t see the importance of eccentric training something that all good bodybuilders should not miss.  The eccentric phase is the lowering of the weight you are lifting which lengthens the muscle fibres, they also contract as you return the weight to the start position in a controlled way.  The benefits of focusing on eccentric training are-

Increased strength

Eccentric training has been proven to increase strength a lot more than concentric muscle actions.

Better muscle hypertrophy

The stimulus for muscle growth is known as micro trauma to the muscle following exercise.  The lengthening of the muscles during a contraction increases the amount of micro trauma experienced by the muscle.  It has been proven that eccentric training is much better at inducing muscular hypertrophy than concentric training.
