What is a hardgainer
May 12th, 2010
The bodybuilding definition of someone who is considered a hardgainer is someone who works out hard and follows a strict diet but despite these efforts finds it hard to pack on size and muscle. Hardgainers are usually ectomorphs, the frame size which is slim and genetically not very muscular. Many of the greatest bodybuilders of all time were hardgainers, Frank Zane being one of the most famous examples. Hardgaines particularly thrive as bodybuilders because they want to be big and muscular so much as they were skinny most of their life, they tend to workout harder and follow their diet harder than most other bodybuilders.
If you are a hardgainer there are a couple of things that you need to follow to ensure you get the best results out of your training and dieting.
- Don’t do too much cardio - as a hard gainer you will burn fat very easily, don’t speed this process up by doing loads of cardio.
- Use weight gainers – weight gainers will help you develop a body that most people who took weight gainers would not get as they would become very overweight. Due to your frame and metabolism this kind of diet plan can benefit you.
- Avoid too much high rep training- as a hardgainer you want to be concentrating on low rep training to build bulky size, of course do some toning up work but concentrate on building thick dense muscle.
