Why cant my 13 year old son train with you at your personal training studio
September 29th, 2008
13 year olds are still growing and weight training can stunt there growth and cause damage to their joints. As a personal training studio our insurance covers us for over 18’s there are trainers who will train kids but this is rare due to the difficulty it involves and the dangers. If your son or daughter is desperate to get in shape then jogging with you around the park is safe and maybe some light press ups or crunches on the floor. If your son or daughter is really overweight then look at what you are feeding them and make sure it falls into the healthy food guidelines for kids and teenagers as this is normally the case they are over weight. Check they are attending exercise at school and make sure they are getting enough exercise day to day e.g. walking to school. If this still doesn’t cause them to lose weight talk to your GP about them as they will be able to offer further advice.
The kid shown in the picture is a young weight lifter in his early teens and this kind of development at that age is not recommended. This was recently documented on channel 4 and the long term damage can be serious for kids this young. Don’t rush to get muscular you have years to do it just make sure you stay fit and healthy.
